I've been on the hunt for an everyday red bag that is high quality and versatile. A few weeks ago I stumbled across the Celine Medium Tabou, which was released in 2021 and is currently discontinued. I was immediately drawn to the beautifully minimal design. Celine is already considered a "quiet luxury" brand, but I was looking for something even more discreet (especially compared to the Triomphe designs) and she seemed perfect. Despite not being super popular, she's been praised by the online reviews I was able to find (Youtube video, blog article).
I decided to keep an eye on secondhand stores (Fashionphile, Rebag), which had a few colour options available. Here are a few examples colours I saw while researching (the anthracite is so unique and beautiful!):
My experience buying from 24S
I mulled over her for a few weeks, until one day I suddenly saw her pop up on 24S... in red! I didn't even know she came in red! Her official name is "Carmin". She was also 40% off retail price and cheaper than most secondhand options. I couldn't believe my eyes and immediately added her to my cart. Right after, the product page stated she was unavailable and I panicked. I removed her from my cart and she came back. This confirmed that she was the only one available, which was my sign!
24S is an LMVH owned website that sells luxury goods, sometimes at better prices compared to stores in the US. The package arrived super quickly from France, just 3 days after I placed my order. The 24S box was beautiful and sturdy, and she came inside a Celine dustbag. All the return materials were also provided, in case she disappointed me (which she didn't). It was my first time buying from 24S, and they truly delivered.
About the bag & what fits
My daily essentials: Comme Des Garcons wallet, bag hook, hand sanitizer spray, 2 lip products, and a small pouch with candies, liquid IV, hand cream, altoids, and an eyeglass cloth
She feels very high quality and luxurious, and her colour is stunning. It's not too bright but also brings a pop of colour into an outfit. The calfskin leather on the outside feels very smooth, yet durable. I don't feel like I need to baby this bag super hard. The inside is lined with lambskin and has an accordion design with 2 compartments and 1 zip slot - this feels more delicate, so I have a key case arriving to prevent my keys from scratching her up. Everything I normally carry fits easily. There's definitely room to fit a more things, but she'll probably start becoming a lil bulky.
Wearing the bag
She can be worn on the shoulder or crossbody; the strap is adjustable and goes between two loops on the underside of the flap, and after adjusting, it can be tucked into a loop to hold it in place. I'm 169cm or 5'6, and she's light and comfortable to wear, sitting very naturally on my body. The closure is magnetic and secure, yet easy to get in and out of. The lock does flap around a bit and needs to be straightened, but I don't mind - it's one of my favourite details.
Overall, I'm so happy the stars aligned and I was able to grab her new, in such a beautiful colour, at such a great price. She's so timeless and wearable for all seasons and many occasions. I can give an update once I've gotten to know her better!
